Laser anti-drone Trident announced
UA Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine announced development and deployment of a laser anti-drone weapon "Trident".
Colonel Vadym Sukharevsky, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine, announced the development and deployment of a laser anti-drone weapon system called "Trident" (Tryzub) According to Sukharevsky, Ukraine is now one of approximately five countries possessing such technology, with the "Trident" laser capable of engaging aircraft at altitudes above 2 kilometers.
In addition to laser technology, Ukraine is developing and deploying "mothership" drones designed to carry and deploy two smaller FPV (First Person View) drones. These carrier drones possess a reported operational range exceeding 70 kilometers, enabling them to launch FPV drones for strikes against targets deep within enemy territory. The mothership drones also function as signal repeaters, extending the effective range of the smaller FPV drones.
The Unmanned Systems Forces, established less than six months prior to the announcement, have already deployed combat and scientific units operating across air, land, and sea domains along the entire front line. These units utilize the newly developed laser and drone technologies. Sukharevsky highlighted the ongoing efforts to scale both the laser and "mothership" drone programs, indicating a strategic focus on these technologies for future military operations.
